Most toothbrushes avoid making promises as exact and as testable as this, which makes us pretty eager to try it out. Still, it does have all the functionality you’d expect. There are four cleaning modes, with three intensity settings on each. Clean is for everyday use, White+ is for stain removal. There’s also Gum Health and Deep Clean+. The intensity settings allow you to tailor the brushing programmes to your requirements. So, if you suffer from bleeding gums or sensitive teeth, you can use the correct programme but on a gentler setting. It also has a brush pacer, which tells you when to move between sections of your mouth. Most people tend to over-brush one area of the mouth and neglect other areas, so this is a useful feature in training users brush their teeth well. There’s a pressure sensor, to let you know if you’re brushing too hard, and a brush head replacement reminder. These features mean you should always be brushing optimally. Finally, it has an EasyStart setting, which is aimed at people who haven’t used an electric brush before. It gradually increases power over the course of the first brushing sessions, to get the user comfortable with their new device.
It comes with a glass charger and travel case with USB charger. This is something we always like to see as it makes travelling with your electric toothbrush so much simpler. It’s app-connected and Android and Apple compatible. Along with the top-of-the-line look and features comes a top-of-the-line price: £340 at launch. But the cost doesn’t end there. To make the most of the different cleaning programmes, you should use them in conjunction with different brush heads. The DiamondClean 9000 comes with one brush head, optimised for plaque control, but you can buy other heads optimised for whitening, tongue and gum health, and so on. With a brush this pricey, it seems pretty cheeky to ask users to shell out for other brush heads as well. Hopefully, this means that the brushing experience is just that good.
