Intel is combining its Architecture Business Group and Microprocessor Products Group into a single unit to deliver hardware and software more effectively to three key platforms: desktop computing, enterprise computing and the mobile market. The new group, named the Intel Architecture Group, will develop microprocessors and other technology. Intel spokesman Tom Waldron says the merged group will include more than 1,000 employees, many of who will act as Internet consultants abroad. “It’s really our goal to be the premier building-block supplier to e-business and the Internet economy,” he says. “A few years ago, the computer industry was a singular industry,” adds Waldron. Responding to the changes since then, Intel’s latest restructuring and investment is a renewed effort to provide more-tailored products that will help businesses succeed online.
