Step 1: Download both the zip package files on your computer. Do not extract them. Step 2: Now using a USB cable connect your phone to the computer. Step 3: Disconnect your phone from the PC and switch it off completely. Then boot your phone into TWRP recovery mode. Note: Recovery mode can be entered by pressing & holding Volume up + Home button (middle button) + Power button together till you land into recovery. Before flashing any custom ROM it is necessary to backup your ROM. This is known as Nandroid backup. Step 4: From the main menu of TWRP recovery, select the Wipe option. Step 5: On the next screen swipe right to initiate the factory reset process. Note: This step will wipe out the data on your phone memory so make sure you have backed up everything before performing this step. Step 6: Let’s flash the Android 8.1 Oreo ROM now. For that select the Install option from the TWRP main menu. This will show you all the files and folders present on your phone’s memory. Δ – From linux ubuntu 20.04 I used heimdall (odin for linux) to install TWRP. – Used Magisk for rooting and getting EFS app working. – As per the tutorial, there is a point where we use the TWRP ‘Wipe’ option, here for me, I had to go to the Wipe advanced section and select all partitions to wipe out, except the sdcard storage, else lineageos does not install and halts with the below error ‘E1001: Failed to update system image.’ By the way since camera and video had problems on lineage-15.1, I moved to lineage-14.1, seems fine for now. f33tdust.
