Although the FreeBuds 4i were briefly announced during the Huawei Mate X2 launch in China, we know have the official launch details. In the UK, the headphones will be available to pre-order from 12 March and then go on sale 26 March. Those who pre-order will get a £5 discount, a free Huawei Band 4 and free delivery. A follow-on from the Freebuds 3i, Huawei aims to offer excellent sound quality along with active noise cancelling (ANC) for an affordable price. They will go up against pairs such as the Anker Soundcore Life A2 NC. The FreeBuds 4i feature different ANC modes you can choose from such as Ultra, General and Cozy for different situations. There’s also an Awareness Mode so you can hear your surroundings or hold a conversation without removing the earbuds. Dynamic ANC remains on the more expensive FreeBuds Pro but Huawei has improved battery life compared to the 3i. Now the 4i can last for up to 10 hours on a single charge with ANC off or 7.5 hours with it on. Including the charging case, they can go for a total of 22 hours. The FreeBuds 4i now come in a new Honey Red colour (coming mid-April) along with Ceramic White and Carbon Crystal as well as a redesigned charging case. Tuned for pop music, the earbuds have 10mm dynamic drivers with a “PEEK+PU” polymer composite diaphragm for “flexible and powerful, providing high sensitivity and rich dynamic response, allowing users to hear more details in their music.” Those with a Huawei phone running EMUI 10.0 will benefit from fast pairing via a pop-up notification when the charging case is opened in AirPods style.
