Whether you’ve got a long video you shot on your camera from a concert you’ve been to or a short clip of one of your friends acting foolish at a party that you shot on your smartphone, it’s quick and normally fairly simple to share that video to Facebook. How to upload a video to Facebook on your computer

If you’re using Facebook on your desktop or laptop, you’ll first need to get your video onto your computer (this may require a cable or the SD card from your camera, or perhaps simply a WiFi connection, depending on your camera and computer’s capabilities). The best format to upload your video in is MP4, but various other formats are also supported. (Also see: How to switch off notifications in Facebook Messenger.)

Now, you can go to Facebook and click the Add Photos/Video button at the top of your News Feed or Timeline. You can now click ‘Upload Photos/Video’ and choose your video. Once you’ve selected the video you want to upload, tap open. It’ll now appear in your status bar and you can add a caption or description of your video before pressing ‘Post’ to share it with your friends. If you want to tag friends that appear in your video, click the video to expand it and then click the ‘Tag video’ button. From here you can add a title to your video if you didn’t already add one, you can edit the description of your video (adding tags within the text is easy too – simply start typing a friend’s name and then click on them when they appear automatically in a drop down menu), and you can type the names of the people you were with just beneath the description to tag them. Now you can tap Finished editing to make the changes public.

How to upload a video to Facebook on your smartphone or tablet

If you’re using the Facebook app on your smartphone or tablet to upload a video to Facebook the process is a tiny bit different. In the app, tap ‘Photo’ at the top of the screen and then you’ll be faced with the photos and videos stored on your device. Choose the video you want to upload and press ‘Done’. You can type a caption or description about the video, add a location and tag friends by tapping on the text entry area, and then you can tap ‘Post’ to share it with your friends. Sometimes it takes a little while for your video to upload, particularly if it’s a long one, but Facebook will notify you when it’s ready to watch.
