The buds are confusingly called Pixel Buds, the same product name as the now-discontinued originals from 2017. We gave those 2016 Pixel Buds a two-star review and stand by that evaluation, so we are hoping the new 2020 generation are a significant improvement. The design is updated to true wireless, with a secure-looking wing design and cute pebble-like (AirPods-like) charging case. Google is pushing the usefulness of having the Google Assistant well-integrated into the buds, with the ability to send hands free messages and real-time translation pushed as features. These features did not work well on the first generation but with three extra years of development and maturing of the platform, the 2020 Pixel Buds should be a better bet. The 2020 Pixel Buds are on sale now for £179 direct from Google.
