Why choose a business laptop running Windows 10 Pro?

Business features supported in Windows 10 Pro but not Windows 10 Home include:

Remote Desktop

Access and control your office PC from your home computer, or vice versa. All Windows 10 machines support Remote Desktop connections, but only Windows 10 Pro PCs can be remotely controlled.

BitLocker

A powerful disk-encryption software for your hard drive, which can also be run on external USB drives to aid in the securing of file-sharing.

Windows Update for Business

Update software on your schedule: your laptop is an important work tool, and the ability to defer updates can prevent buggy Windows software losing you time and money.

Client Hyper-V

Built-in virtualisation software, which lets you test software in a virtual sandbox or install older operating systems to get around software compatibility issues.

It might cost £1800, but this HP EliteBook is both laptop and tablet in one, with its 12.5in touch panel able to swivel around and fold flat against the lid. It’s an ideal choice if you can’t make up your mind which mobile device is the one for you.   It runs full Windows 10 Pro, and its impressive spec will empower you to get all your work done with the minimum of fuss. There’s a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-7500U chip, which is paired with 8GB of RAM and a generous 256GB solid-state drive.  The 1.1kg EliteBook x360 is a seriously good-looking device, supremely thin and light for a 2-in-1. It’s perfect for taking on the road, and promises strong battery life while you’re away from mains power.  The HP’s display is a full-HD panel with excellent brightness measured at 700 nits, which should make it visible in all conditions. It’s also protected from accidental damage with Gorilla Glass 4.  HP cuts no corners here, with Bang & Olufson audio, two USB-C 3.1 ports, HDMI, Bluetooth and fast networking. A three-year warranty is standard. Another 2-in-1, but available for under £1000, Lenovo’s ThinkPad L380 Yoga has a larger 13.3in touchscreen IPS display at the expense of a little extra weight.  Though it’s not as easily portable as the HP at 1.46kg, the Lenovo is still thin and light, and promises excellent 12-hour battery life. As well as the traditional laptop- and tablet working modes the Yoga can also bend itself into ‘Tent’ and ‘Stand’ configurations, making it a versatile tool for whatever task is at hand. This Windows 10 Pro laptop has a very good spec, and is more than up to your business computing needs. There’s a Core i7-8550U chip clocked at 1.8GHz, 8GB of DDR4 RAM (expandable to 32GB) and a 256GB solid-state drive for storing all your documents.    Lenovo also lists two USB-C ports, two USB 3.0, HDMI, NFC and a microSD card reader. There’s an HD webcam, Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi, all backed by a one-year warranty. Dell is a well-known brand for its business laptops, and this Latitude 7390 is everything we expect from the company. This is a laptop-tablet hybrid running Windows 10 Pro on a 13.3in touchscreen, allowing you to get done whatever needs doing, wherever you are. The Latitude is not your standard office-fare, with a premium full-HD anti-glare display and a good-looking, flexible design that includes a two-button touchpad, backlit keyboard and minimal screen bezels. It’s easily portable at 1.4kg, too. It’s powered by a latest-generation Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9GHz, which is paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a capacious 256GB SSD. This laptop should handle whatever you throw at it. Dell claims all-day battery life at up to 19 hours, or more than 32 hours with Dell Power Companion. It also offers a range of customisable security extras, both hard- and software-based. As standard you’ll find HDMI, USB-C (x2), USB 3.1 (x2), an SD card reader and an audio jack, plus ethernet, a lock slot and uSIM. Toshiba is a well known brand for business users, and its Portégé X20W-D-10V Flip is a two-in-one laptop-tablet running full Windows 10 Pro. Don’t let the fancy screen acrobatics fool you though, this is a powerful piece of kit with a Core i7-7500U chip clocked at 2.7GHz. The Toshiba also boasts 8GB of RAM and a colossal 512GB SSD. Thanks to a compact 12.5in Full-HD screen the Portégé keeps weight down to a minimum at just 1.1kg. It doesn’t skimp on the features inside though, and Toshiba promises it will keep working as long as you do with a claimed battery life of 14.5 hours. Other enticing features include Harman Kardon stereo speakers, a full-size keyboard and stylus, a trackpad with fingerprint scanner, and a cable lock slot. The Toshiba is practical too, with 802.11ac+agn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support, plus USB 3.0 and USB-C ports. It comes with a one-year warranty for peace of mind. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 is the thinnest, lightest ‘tough’ laptop you’ll find. With a carbon-fibre-reinforced body, it’s incredibly durable and the perfect partner for working away from the office. It has a 14in full-HD panel, which is large enough to get productivity tasks done, and a capacious battery that offers a long 15-hour runtime. In spite of that, this business laptop weighs just 1.13kg: Lenovo says it has a 10 percent smaller footprint than previous generations There’s still loads of power inside, thanks to a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-7200U dual-core processor and 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Storage is plentiful with a 256GB solid-state drive, and you can easily add more with a microSD card or portable drive. Connectivity is well covered, with a 4G LenovoConnect SIM, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and provision for Thunderbolt (x2), USB 3.0 (x2), HDMI and Ethernet. Welcome extras include a fingerprint reader and Dolby audio, and the whole package is covered with a three-year warranty.
